Prayer Focus Stories

Tyap of Nigeria

The Tyap people live in a country that needs God’s deeper truths in languages that the ordinary people can understand. Two previous translation efforts met with limited success – the second resulting in a draft of 60 percent of the New Testament. Seed Company partners will bolster these earlier efforts by the Kataf church, providing computers, training materials, visits by experienced consultants and training sessions.

  • The Tyap team reviewed the Gospel of John and Romans with consultant Katy last month, as planned. Now these two books, are close to readiness for publication.

  • Pray that the Tyap traditional council will support the translation work seriously. Community ownership of any Bible translation project is vital. The team is seeking to facilitate this by working through the local governmental and cultural structures.

  • The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and tribal associations are working with the Tyap project to encourage the cooperation of the government. Praise God that these chiefdoms have accepted the seven suggestions presented by the CAN and are seeking ways to implement them.
