Tharaka of Kenya

Excitement is in the air. After the publication of the New Testament, Tharaka people (pop. 112,000) now eagerly await the translation of the Old Testament, slated to be completed in 2012. The Tharaka translators are encouraged by the sustained use of the New Testament in church worship, open-aired Christian meetings and house-to-house evangelism. They also see it making a real difference in personal, family and group devotions. Workers recently sold 49 copies of the New Testament and have set a goal to sell another 50 soon.

  • Praise God the books of Ruth, Ecclesiastes, Joel, Obadiah, Jonah, Zephaniah, Haggai and Malachi are nearly ready to be printed, dedicated and released to the public.

  • Praise God for strong community interest, as evidenced by a gathering of 3,000 to promote the translation work.

  • Pray that local interest in the Tharaka translation will fan into flames.
