Tharaka of Kenya
The Tharaka people will benefit greatly from a complete Bible translation. The creation of written forms for the Tharaka language and the completion of the New Testament in 2001 were giant steps forward for these people across Kenya. The Old Testament will provide context for the New Testament and will serve as an encouragement for these people who face similar problems of drought, famine and the harsh farming conditions.

The Tharaka team finished checking Exodus and passed it on to the Scripture reviewers’ committee. The team has started reviewing Leviticus and Joshua, as planned. They also finished drafting Judges and have begun revising it. Praise for good progress.

The historical book of Esther and the prophetic book of Hosea will soon be ready for the consultant’s review; they’re still drafting the lengthy Genesis. Pray for endurance.

Over the past three months the team anticipated selling at least 50 copies of the Tharaka NT and 60 copies of other translated materials. However, they far exceeded their goals and distributed 380 copies of the NT and 323 other titles. Thank God for blessing them.

The team introduced the One Story approach to evangelism and Scripture-use in eight churches throughout the Tharaka community. One Story is an oral method that gathers Bible verses around culturally relevant themes. Pray for its impact.
