Tera of Nigeria

The Tera was part of the Gombe Workshop which is just finishing up. The 100,000 Tera speakers are the most northern group of the Gombe cluster. The Tera received one Gospel in their language in 1930 but the translation is difficult to understand and is no longer in use. There is now a great desire to revive the language. Literacy efforts are being made in the communities and the JESUS film will soon be shown in the Tera language since they were able to translate the Book of Luke and did the JESUS Film script. The Tera team is already making that transition. Mark’s Gospel in Tera now is ready for printing in a trial version. The team has also completed the first draft of Matthew and is revising a translation of John, which was done back in the 1930s.

  • Now that they have finished work on the Gospel of Luke and translated and recorded the script for the JESUS film, the Tera project has transitioned to a full-fledged program. Pray for great results.
  • Pray that Tera people will offer practical and prayer support of the translation project. Pray that there’ll be unity among the different denominations.
  • Thank the Lord for providing the Tera translators with a new laptop. Modern technology has been a great boon to the Bible translation task. Pray that the team will become adept in using software programs related to Bible translation.
