Prayer Focus Stories

Swadesh of India

50,000 people for whom a mother-tongue New Testament will be their local pastor. Most of the Swadesh people are animists at heart with a thin veneer of Hinduism over their daily lives. Fewer than 1% of the Swadesh are Christians. The Swadesh team has translated some New Testament portions along with a booklet on the Parables of Jesus and some other small study guides. The team is praying that the Swadesh New Testament will lead to enormous church growth in the area. Evangelists and church planters are switching from the regional language into using Swadesh as it becomes available. The proposed project will provide financial support and offer necessary technical assistance to insure completion of the Swadesh New Testament in a timely and professional manner. They were already making progress on other epistles and also producing gospel tracts.

  • Pray with the team that the Swadesh New Testament will lead to enormous church growth in the area. Evangelists and church planters are switching from the regional language into using Swadesh as it becomes available.
  • As the team translates the Scriptures, the small, scattered Swadesh church will be encouraged as they gather in their homes and communities. Pray God will use the New Testament to train people who have very little access to outside discipleship and build up the local church.
