San Pedro of Mexico

The San Pedro people live in small towns and in the country side between the mountains and coastlands of Central Mexico. Christianity arrived with the Spanish explorers in the 16th century. Though Catholicism is prevalent in the San Pedro area, it is often mixed with spirit worship and shamanism. Translator Benito has taken initiative to translate the New Testament into the San Pedro language. He worked for ten years as a bilingual radio announcer and during that time, he took courses in computers, speech, recording, radio, communication equipment, writing and human relations. Already, Benito has helped create a working alphabet for the San Pedro, despite disagreements on how to write certain letters and the tones of this once unwritten language. When the San Pedro project is completed, they will have the New Testament along with recordings of the New Testament and literacy materials.

  • The small San Pedro church that translator Benito pastors has seen a steady increase in attendance. Thank the Lord that San Pedro church members are growing in a closer relationship with Him. Pray that the Gospel will continue to reach and draw new believers.

  • Benito continues to use a valuable software program called Paratext to check New Testament words. Praise God for specialized computer programs to simplify the translation process.

  • The Gospel of Mark was recently recorded in the San Pedro language. Pray that many will listen to the recording of the Gospel of Mark and come to faith in Christ.
