Samburu and Ilchamus languages of Kenya
As nomadic pastoralists, the Samburu and Ilchamus people respect the work of a shepherd. Pray that many Samburu and Ilchamus, whose combined population is about 200,000, will come to know the Good Shepherd as their personal Savior.
Most have resisted the gospel for nearly fifty years, yet a remnant of believers is growing in size. As more and more come to believe, it’s essential that they hear God’s Word in the language they understand best for growth and outreach. Local translators plan to complete the New Testament and portions of the Old Testament by 2013, after starting in 2007.
-
Praise God that last Christmas Eve, 80 Samburu congregations heard the Christmas story in their mother tongue for the first time. About 3,200 church members received Scripture booklets.
-
Pray that the Scriptures—like seeds sown—will produce great faith in the people’s hearts.
-
Praise God: a radio station has been broadcasting readings from the Scripture booklet, and many are responding enthusiastically.
