Rivali New Testament nears Completion

The Rivali people have worshiped animal gods as part of their traditional animistic beliefs for generations. Many years ago Catholic priests brought Christianity and practical assistance like the children’s homes they still run today. In 1978 national missionaries started planting churches. As a result of these ministries there are about 20,000 Rivali believers. Recognizing that God’s Word was needed for spiritual growth, nationals began translation in 1996. The literacy rate is very low, so literacy programs are also part of the project.

  • Translators are no doubt biased, but they’re nearly unanimous in their belief that Bible translation is one of the most important ministries in the world. Pray for the Rivali translators as they approach the finish line in this urgent work.

  • The big goal for the Rivali team now that they’re on the homestretch is to do a final revision of the whole New Testament in preparation for typesetting and printing. Pray for God’s encouragement as they tackle this exacting job.

  • Thank God He led one key translator to participate in a three-day mission retreat, where he shared about the Rivali translation project. Many people prayed for the Rivali people at that time and promised to assist in some way in the translation work. More than 500 people participated in this retreat.
