Quechua Speakers of Peru

High in the Peruvian Andes, speakers of 5 related languages work to translate the OT for 970,000 people. This project uses CARLA, computer software to adapt an OT draft from one language into rough drafts for at least four others for a total of five simultaneous OTs. Because SIL sold its center in Huaraz, they are struggling with working out the logistics of meeting there: safety, security for all the equipment being used, space to work that is not too noisy, safe food, access to internet, ability to do laundry, how to handle banking, etc.

  • The project advisors, Mark and Patti Bean were able to hold most of Workshop No. 36 out in a more remote area rather than in one of the two “state” capitals where they usually meet. All goals were met, in spite of a myriad of computer problems and having to finish the last week of the workshop in the state capital, Huaraz. Praise God for graciously accommodating their need through a partner organization that provided space for the meeting and lodging.
  • While in Huaraz, Mark had an unexpected opportunity to teach a group of about 48 pastors and leaders from the South Conchucos and Callejon de Huaylas areas. Thank the Lord for the opportunity to share the Bible and the translation process with community leaders. Pray that they will become involved in the project.
  • Thank the Lord for the keen, clear and focused attention of all five translation teams. Pray for their continued success as they move forward in completing this work. We trust that God intervened and all the accommodations, food, travel and details of this Jan/Feb workshop came together quickly and easily.
