Priau of India
301,000 speakers who are traditionally animistic spirit worshipers although their religion is heavily influenced by the national religion. Swedish and Norwegian missionaries brought the Gospel to the area around 75 years ago. Several churches resulted but struggled without a Bible they could understand. Since then the country has become hostile to missionary activity. Thanks to indigenous mission workers, well educated people, who came in 1998 sharing the Gospel, today about 1,500 Priau believers worship in several congregations. The goal is the NT publication.
- Praise God that drafting of Luke, the longest New Testament book, is underway. Pray that the team will commence testing Mark’s Gospel and James soon.
- Pray that the Priau believers can stand firm against opposition to their faith. They face opposition from neighbors and relatives.
- The translators are thinking of selecting a local worker for church planting, which will give them even more time to concentrate on Bible translation. Pray that God will increase the harvest among the Priau through church planting.
