Prayer Focus Stories
Namma of South Asia
Although Christianity came to the region about 200 years ago, its influence among the Namma people remains negligible. They have a highly negative attitude towards Christianity as an outside religion. Without knowledge of God, Namma lives are ruled by fear, superstition, and the practice of witchcraft by traditional village healers. Their most important function involves invoking of, and possession by, spirits. God has called a dedicated and well-qualified couple as the translators.

The translator drafted 1 and 2 Timothy and James in the Namma tongue, and also translated Philemon. Pray that God will guide the translator as she reviews her translation of these epistles and gets them ready for the community testing phase.

Three recent dropouts, all girls, have decided to continue their schooling at the center. They took their grade 10 exams and did well. After the exams, the girls came to the Namma team and said, “We also want to know more about the God whom you serve.”

The Lord has provided a well-educated Namma lady to help with the translation. She’s a seeker of God and is wholeheartedly involved in the translation work. Her first assignment is drafting the Gospel of Matthew. Pray for salvation for her and her husband.
