Misaje speakers of Cameroon

Scripture for literacy as well as church growth

But when I am afraid, I put my trust in you. O God, I praise your word. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? (Psalm 56: 3-4, NLT)

More than half of the Misaje people are Christians, but few have separated themselves from old traditions involving spirit worship. Most are concerned with providing enough food for their families, rather than pursuing education. This project will encourage local churches to pursue literacy programs and Scripture classes, by providing alphabet charts, books and primers, picture books of Scripture stories, reading and writing books, plus poster sets with mother-tongue captions. In the process, translators will receive training, to prepare them for further Scripture translation. They’ll also lay the groundwork for translating the “JESUS” film.

  • Saari translator Boniface is a leader in his church and an active member of his community. The Misaje Cluster translator training program had a powerful impact on him. He says: “The devotions, the lectures and the stories each day taught me who God really is.” He encourages his lo¬cal church to use Saari in worship services. Thank the Lord for the concern that Boniface shows for the physical and spiritual condition of the Saari people.
  • The neighboring Noni people were excitedly preparing for the dedication of their NT in December. Pray for them as they reach out to their people.
  • The new Misaje Translation Center is up and running! Volun¬teers from WA recently installed solar equipment that supplies electricity to the building. Join the Misaje Cluster project team members as they praise God for their new solar-powered Misaje Translation Center. Pray that solar equipment problems will be few and that repairs will be made in a timely way so that translators can work without interruption.
