Mbandja of Nigeria
50,000 speakers. The New Testament was completed in 1996. Because the Mbandja way of life corresponds very closely to that of the Old Testament, church leaders feel that the stories will minister to the people in a unique way to clarify their understanding of God. The team has used a computer program called CARLA (Computer Assisted Related Language Adaptation) to help them produce a reference draft of the Old Testament based on the completed translation in a related language.
- Praise God that drafting of 2 Chronicles, one of the last two OT books to translate, is well underway. Pray that the Lord will reward the translator for being faithful to his calling.
- Thank the lord for the keyboarding of Jeremiah and Samuel. Pray that God will maximize the typist’s contribution to the work despite the limited time he can give to it. Thank the Lord for his flexibility to fill in with more keyboarding when the computer is available.
- Thank God that the team is pushing forward to complete work on the Mbandja Old Testament this year. Pray that the Lord will empower the translators at this critical stage of the task.
- “We continue to face trying times,” a translator notes. “Pray that the Lord will give us stamina and fortitude for the remaining work and time before us.” Pray for wisdom for decision-makers who guide the Mbandja translation project. Pray that God will supply all that’s needed in this final year of the work.
