Lubwisi of Uganda
Over half the 84,000 Babwisi people profess to be Christians, yet many lack a deep faith. Fighting, famine, disease and AIDS afflict many. Without the Scriptures in Lubwisi—their mother tongue—how can they truly grow in their faith?
In 2006 Babwisi translators, Bishop Hannington and Charles, took on the task of translating the New Testament and portions of the Old Testament by 2011. As Lubwisi Scriptures have become available, one local church leader has said: “As I read Lubwisi, I understand well the meaning. In fact, it’s as if Jesus Himself is speaking to me.”
-
Pray that the books of Mark and Acts and audiotapes of Jonah and Mark in Lubwisi will touch people’s lives.
-
Praise God for those who are enthusiastically taking advantage of literacy classes to learn to read Lubwisi.
-
Pray for Charles and Hannington, who finished drafting Ephesians and Colossians and are getting prepared for the consultant’s comments.
