Lis ma Ron of Nigeria

Missionaries from the Sudan United Mission brought the gospel to the Lis ma Ron area in the last century. As a result, about half of the population claims to follow Christ. Three denominations are currently active among the Lis ma Ron. Another major religion has some adherents in the area; their numbers are limited, but growing. Some people practice African traditional religions. The Lis ma Ron are very motivated to resist pressure from another major religion and to strengthen the church. The team includes two full-time translators and others who are part-time. They have the support and encouragement of church leaders. Through the local Bible translation organization, they will receive specific training to use the translation software necessary for their work. Local churches are part of the planning process. This project will be based on a computer adaptation from a neighboring language to produce the New Testament and Old Testament portions.

  • Praise God that Matthew and Mark’s Gospels have been translated in first draft. Pray that drafting of Romans will be completed without obstacles.

  • Thank the Lord that portions of Luke’s Gospel are now in the hands of the local people and are having a mighty effect. Pray for the team as they prepare the whole book for publication soon. Pray that many Lis ma Ron speakers will better understand Jesus through having Luke in their heart language.

  • Praise God for the helpful training that the team has received. Pray that their relationship with the local Bible translation organization will continue to be a blessing.
