Las Flores of Mexico

The Las Flores people strongly value their language and culture. There has been a variety of Christian influences in the area since the 1930s. In recent years, one group of believers told their priest “We need the Bible in our own language!” This project is being headed by Gulmaro, a 30-year-old Christian man who is fluent in his own language and Spanish. He is now working full-time on the project. The translated book of Jonah was the first book ever printed in their language. Believers and unbelievers alike are amazed to see their language written.

  • Praise God that Gulmaro’s health has significantly improved. Pray for healing for his brother, who is mentally ill. Pray for Gulmaro and Juan as they do the hard work of detecting unclear renderings as well as any spelling or grammar mistakes that need correcting.

  • Pray for God’s wisdom as Gulmaro works on Galatians. Pray that many Las Flores people will begin to understand the extent of God’s marvelous grace offered freely to them in Christ as they read the book of Galatians.

  • Gulmaro continues to teach from the translated Scriptures at the local church whose former pastor left but his lack of formal pastoral training prevents him from serving as pastor in the community. Pray that the Lord will lead a pastor to this small church who will be supportive of using the mother tongue in the congregation.
