Ketning of Southeast Asia

The Ketning live in the eastern highlands of Southeast Asia. Their name means “people of the valley of the sun.” The mountains of this remote area are heavily jungled and quite steep. No roads have been built nor do navigable rivers flow into the area. Villages range in size from about 50 people to more than 500. Early evangelical efforts began among the Ketengban in the mid 70s. Until that time, they had been animists, venerating ancestors, participating in revenge killings, exercising “black magic,” and practicing cannibalism. Today, because they have the New Testament in their language, about 75% of them are Christians. Now there are no obvious animistic practices, syncretism or cults known in their community.

  • Praise God that the two Ketning teams now have adequate facilities in which to do their work. Pray that the Lord will use these new offices to further the progress of the translation.

  • Pray for a better internet connection than presently exists. Pray that it will be reliable and readily accessible to the teams.

  • The Lord’s unique blessing was upon Marius, who left the translation work for Government work but agreed to come back the 200 miles every 3 months for an extended time. God has given this man a sharp mind, leadership skills and competence in many things. Praise God for providing him and for his willingness to continue to serve.
