Irigwe people of Nigeria
“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs” –Matthew 5:3, NLT
The women and poor of the Irigwe community (pop. 40,000) especially need a mother-tongue translation of the Bible. Many don’t fully understand God’s Word when it is preached in Hausa, the regional language. Yet we know that God longs to speak directly to their hearts—especially to those who are “poor and realize their need for him.” How He desires to lift them up with him, into the heavenly places!
Irigwe translators started translating the New Testament in 2006 and plan to finish in 2013. Pray for this not-forgotten community!
-
Pray for stamina and joy—the team is at a midpoint in the project and wants to finish strong.
-
Praise God for Esther, the new typist on the team. Pray for wisdom and courage as she attends to the project’s correspondences and keeps financial records.
-
Pray for the women and poor in this community—that God will usher in a new era for them, one filled with hope.
