Huba of Nigeria
During a church service, a Huba man read aloud a portion of Scripture that had just been translated and checked in the Huba language. The people were simply amazed, for they got to hear God’s Word directly—unaided by further explanation on the part of the preacher. As the Huba man later said, once the Bible is in the mother tongue, “there’s little need for commentary.”
The Huba people number about 200,000. They have their trials with poverty and the pressures from another major religion. (About 90% Huba people claim Christianity.) In 2008 a team of five Huba translators, backed by several local churches, committed to translating the New Testament and portions of the Old Testament by 2013. Partner organization Faith Comes By Hearing plays a big part in this project.
-
Praise God the team is making good progress, completing work on Matthew; John; 2 Timothy; 1, 2 and 3 John; and Jude.
-
Praise God for the couple who donated a van for the Huba project—filling a big need.
-
Pray that the team will be able to translate the Word in a way that is meaningful to the Huba culture.
