Hawu of Timor
Hawu speakers are Christians and animists who live in a politically and religiously turbulent area. The Timor region of Indonesia is a nation that has been troubled by political and religious unrest for the last several years. Most of the Hawu speakers who live off the home island are active Christians. However, some who live in the homeland continue to follow the traditional religion and are considered resistant to the gospel. This project began as a one-year project to translate the Gospel of Mark and train local translators, and has now developed into a fully formed project to complete the New Testament and portions of the Old Testament.

The team has been working together to polish their drafts of Genesis and Acts prior to meeting with their advisor for the exegetical check. Pray for timing on the part of the advisor and the team.

The ongoing situation of having electricity available only at night is causing the translators to work more slowly than would otherwise be possible. Pray for God’s guidance as the team continues to try to work out a solution for the lack of electricity during daylight hours.

The team from Gospel Recordings worked with the translators and recorded the Gospel of Mark. The team is very encouraged and excited that this recording will be available soon for use by the radio station in Sabu. Pray that it will reach many and have an impact.
