Grasslands of Mexico
The Grasslands people are Descendants of an ancient people who inhabited Meso-America long before the Spanish conquistadors arrived. Today, the indigenous people of the Grasslands continue to live off the land as they have for centuries. Average income is only about $4.50 to $10 dollars a day, so migration to larger cities is high. Traditional homes throughout the mountain area are made of wood with either wood or dirt floors and corrugated metal roofs. Historically, since the arrival of the Spanish, most in the Grasslands community have been Catholic. However, over the past 30 years, some evangelical Protestant churches have sprung up. Today, about 42% of the Grasslands population belongs to one of these.
