Dogon of Mali

The Dogon of West Africa live in one of the bleakest, most isolated places on earth. Since their early origins in Egypt, the Dogon have been mysteriously obsessed with the star Sirius and the white dwarf star that revolves around it. Their complex traditional beliefs also include ancestralism, spiritism, totemism, shamanism, animism and cultism. Though 45% of Dogon speakers claim adherence to the dominant religion in the north, most still hold to their mysterious traditional beliefs as well. In spite of this, the Dogon are one of five major ethnic groups in Mali who have responded positively to the Gospel. In 1997, the Dogon church dedicated the New Testament in their language and the first printing sold out. Today 20% have become Christians and the church is growing fast.

  • The Dogon team is reviewing the books of Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Micah with the consultant. Pray that these Old Testament books, the last to be reviewed by the consultant and approved for publication, will move swiftly through the final steps.

  • Timotheé and Josué will meet for two days with SIL and the United Bible Society for strategic planning and review of their translation project. Pray for wise planning of the translation program for the upcoming fiscal year.

  • Pray that Timotheé’s trip to the U.S. in October where he shared with Christians in US about God sightings in the Dogon area. Pray that he was able to stir in them a passion to pray and be involved in what the Lord is doing.
