Djimini of Ivory Coast
600,000 speakers. The Djimini have a high regard for their language and speak it at home, in the marketplace, and in the churches. The Djimini language is not in danger of disappearing or of being absorbed. Most Djimini practice animism or adhere to African traditional religions; about 2 to 4% are Christians. The New Testament (dedicated 1995) is already used extensively, but the Old Testament stories of Abraham and the prophets are needed to show the truth of the Gospel and to counteract other stories and misunderstandings.

Thank the Lord for looking after the translators’ families, local church members and all Djimini people during the country’s crisis. Pray that He’ll continue His watch care over them. And pray that a durable solution will be found to the shortage of electricity and poor phone connections.
-
Pray for the Djimini team as they do village testing of the last half of Psalms. Pray that God will guide the local reviewers’ committee as they revise the translation and that they will find blessings in the Psalms as we do.
-
Pray that the Djimini people’s enthusiasm to learn to read their heart language won’t dwindle but remain strong.
