Dhao of Timor

The Dhao are farmers who desire to worship in their heart language. Living on the small windswept island of Ndao in the Timor region of Indonesia, the Dhao people were first introduced to Christ in the early 1700s. Today all Dhao speakers consider themselves to be Christians, but as yet don’t have the Scriptures in their own language. It’s coming soon, thanks to God!

  • The team worked on Ndao Island with their advisor to complete the community comprehension testing of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon and Jude.

  • Praise the Lord that the community testing went well and the team was able to make necessary revisions so the texts are clear, natural and easy to understand.

  • Elders and young people discussing the use of words found that it is not always easy to find another way of phrasing a word in the translation so people can understand what it means. Discussion was animated, and at times heated, but praise God that He gave those guiding the process great patience to allow all voices to be heard and the process to work itself through. The end product will be a high quality translation that can be easily understood.
