Daily Prayer: the Rivali people of India

The Rivali are primarily animists living in the seclusion and serenity of forested hills.. The Rivali people have worshiped animal gods as part of their traditional animistic beliefs for generations. Many years ago Catholic priests brought Christianity and practical assistance like the children’s homes they still run today. In 1978 national missionaries started planting churches. As a result of these ministries there are about 20,000 Rivali believers.

Recognizing that God’s Word was need for spiritual growth, nationals began translation in 1996. The literacy rate is very low, so literacy programs are also part of the project.

  • Praise God that the Rivali translators are getting close to having all New Testament books printed in one volume to place in people’s hands.  Pray that the Lord will give guidance and discernment to the team as they make corrections to the translation during its final review.
  • A new Church building is completed.  Thank the Lord that the Christians in this village now have a place to worship and to gather around God’s Word.
  • Eight people traveled to visit the Rivali area to see the translation work firsthand and were very blessed.  Thank the Lord for ministering to these outsiders through the Rivali translation project. Pray that the effect of their visit will impact them and their church back home for a long time to come.
