Daily Prayer: the Polynesian Outlier Cluster

The Mortlock and Tasman atolls of Papua New Guinea are home to two groups of Polynesian Outliers who speak the Takuu and Nukumanu languages. Surrounded by a vast ocean, the Outliers are isolated. Like castaways, Outliers face the daily challenge of obtaining the bare necessities of life such as food, water, clothing, shelter and fire.

  • Pray that Abraham, the main Takuu translation can do village testing of Matthew, Mark and Luke which has been consultant checked.
  • Pray for Edmond, who has been experiencing pain in his left eye and blurred vision. Despite this, he completed his Paratext check of Nukumanu Acts. Still he can’t get the draft of Acts out to the consultant for his review, because no ship has come. .Please pray.
  • The lack of reliable transportation to this “ends of the earth” people group is the biggest obstacle the project faces. The advisor explains the problem like this, “The unpredictability of the ship—yes, it will go next week—no, it won’t be going—yes, it will go soon—saps our ability to concentrate and be productive.” This situation causes delays in communication, the sending back and forth of translation data, receiving equipment from the atoll to be repaired and getting medicine and other necessities to the translators. Pray that God will grant wisdom and a way to work around this ongoing problem.
