Daily Prayer: the Paranan people of the Philippines

Paranan farmers live in a remote coastal region on the island of Luzon, which is battered by typhoons and heavy rain each year.  Their region is inaccessible by road, so people depend on small wooden boats to transport them to other coastal towns where they receive medical help and purchase needed supplies. Two efforts by Philippine cross-cultural workers in the 1980s and 1990s produced 43 percent of the New Testament in Paranan, but work stopped when they left. Three Paranan speakers have now teamed up to complete the remaining 57 percent of the New Testament and are eager to begin. God has provided new momentum for the project, and the translation team has identified ways to improve the previously translated materials.  Fully Funded!

  • The last two books of the NT, 1 & 2 Corinthians have been reviewed by a consultant—and are approved for publication. Praise God for empowering the Paranan team to reach this high point in their translation program where all NT books have been approved for printing.
  • The team continues to use the computer program Paratext to run checks on previously approved New Testament books to ensure that they’re free of errors and ambiguities. /Pray that Paratext will help the team weed out remaining inaccuracies and improve the quality of the translation.
  • Other languages in the Philippines are still without God’s Word. The Paranan team takes every opportunity to share this need with others and encourage people to do something to alleviate the situation. For their part, the team is eager to pass on the skills they’ve been learning to others to help them meet this demand for more translation workers in God’s harvest field.  Bless the Paranan team!
