Daily Prayer: the Nigeria Gombe Cluster Project
The people of Nigeria’s northeastern state of Gombe have been farmers for generations in a land that is slowly recognizing its significant natural resources. They sit on the front lines of a spiritual struggle for the heart of their country in a region where the number of Christians is almost equal to the number of adherents to another major religion and where traditional religions still hold a strong grip. The Nigeria Gombe Cluster Translation Project is an effort to support the desire of the local churches to bring the Gospel of Luke, the JESUS film script, Old and New Testament Scripture booklets to a cluster of people groups who are working together to accomplish these goals.
- Two or three speakers of each of 9 languages received training in Bible translation principles with a view to drafting Luke and producing the JESUS film, based on Luke.
- Let’s thank God for the support of local people who provided food and housing for the workshop. The bishop of Gombe worked with local chiefs and elders to make the workshop a reality.
- Pray that the teams will produce a translation that’s accurate, clear and natural.
- Pray that the teams will develop writing systems that are easy to read and will motivate people to become literate.
