Daily Prayer: the Mbandja people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Catholic missionaries first introduced the gospel to the Mbandja people during the last century, and work by Protestant missionaries began in the 1920s. This work has given birth to two evangelical church communities and as a strong Roman Catholic church.
A large percentage of the Mbandja adhere to African traditional religion while perhaps 30 percent of the population practices Christianity. Church leaders and members have responded enthusiastically to printed portions of Scripture and the recently dedicated New Testament. The Catholic bishop is eager for the entire Bible to be in the hands of the people and has endorsed its use in church.
- Typing all Scripture revisions into the computer is an ongoing task requiring carefulness and attentiveness. Thank the Lord that many Old Testament books are being brought closer to publishable standard.
- Pray that the revelation of God’s character, works and ways in the pages of the Old Testament will wonderfully impact many Mbandja speakers.
- Pray that God will alleviate Congolese poverty and misery that result from the lack of social equity and insecurity in some parts of the country.
