Daily Prayer: the Mayogo people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Protestant mission organizations began work with the Mayogo people in the early 1900s. Catholic missionaries have also worked in this area and the church is well established. About 90 percent of Mayogo are nominally Christian, with about 60 percent of those Catholic. The remaining 10 percent are animistic and practice African traditional religion. In recent years, sects have begun to appear.

Because of unrest following the civil wars in 1996 and 1998, expatriate linguists cannot live in the area on a full-time basis. Local Christians and churches have supported the translation project from the beginning. All four churches involved in this project have shown much interest and commitment to it.

  • The Mayogo team was able to accomplish their translation of 1&2 Tim., 1&2 Thess. and Titus.  Pray that the Lord will use     the powerful message of these five epistles to equip Mayogo churches to serve Him and train people in righteousness.
  • Final editing of the JESUS film is still underway. A dedication ceremony for the release of the film was held in the Mayogo community. Pray that the projectors and power supplies will work well for the showing of the JESUS film in Mayogo villages.
  • Pray that the visual depiction of Jesus in the film will reinforce God’s written Word in the people’s mother tongue.
