Daily Prayer: the Kurok people of South Asia
The Kurok people have historically lived in the forests, but find themselves struggling to survive as they lose their traditional lands. They remain a close-knit society which has caused them to hold onto their traditional values and religious beliefs. Only a small community of believers exists among the Kurok even after many years of missionary effort.
Since the Kurok have such a high regard for their own language and culture, they have been very supportive of efforts to write down their language and the translation team has made a good start.
- Pray for main translator who has spent time preaching from God’s Word in Kurok churches. This has given him opportunities to promote the Bible translation and has also helped him meet the felt needs of local believers. On these occasions he distributed copies of the translated New Testament epistles, which are now being used in the churches. He says that doing translation work enables him and his wife to better understand the Lord’s will for their own lives and thus creates in them more of an urgency to give God’s Word to the Kurok people.
