Daily Prayer: the Kambari people of Nigeria

The Kambari Project focuses on a cluster of three related language groups in western Nigeria: the Agwara, the Auna and the Salka. A segment of this population practices the traditional religion, believing that curses, witchcraft and magic are the basis for everything that goes on in their lives. A majority of the Auna follow another major world religion.
Three separate translations are being done simultaneously for these three Kambari people groups. By working together the translation teams can take advantage of the synergy that comes from shared goals, efforts and facilities. They can discuss translation problems, share in workshop and consultant resources and support each other in significant ways.

  • The work is moving along steadily. Even in the advisors’ absence, the teams have stayed on schedule in their translation work. The goal is for all the translation to be reviewed by consultants or be in their hands by January 2008. Typesetting of the NT should begin by mid-2008.
  • The four Old Testament summaries (Beginnings, the Life of Moses, Joshua to Solomon and Kings and Prophets) are comprised of actual Scripture verses selected to provide a narrative of Old Testament portions referred to in the New Testament. These will be printed together in one volume prior to being made available along with the New Testament when it’s published. Pray that the Old Testament summaries will bring many people to a deeper knowledge of hem with a foundation for teaching about Christ.
