Daily Prayer: the Dagara-speaking people of Burkina Faso
80,000 widely scattered villagers with about 1,300 Christians. The illiteracy rate exceeds 80%.. The Dagara (pronounced DAH-gah-rah) people reside in the southwest part of Burkina Faso and the northwest part of Ghana. They live in small villages scattered over a large area. More than 98% of the Dagara still follow their traditional animist religion. However, the Association of Evangelical Pentecostal Churches (AEEP) was planted in the area at the end of the 1940s. Only a few individuals practice the other major religion in the region.
- The Dagara team looks forward to making the Gospel of John available to people in their mother tongue. An exegetical revision of John is currently in progress by the Scripture reviewers’ committee, as planned. Pray for great impact.
- The translators are almost done testing Acts with local people. The final goal is to publish the book by year’s end. Pray that Luke and Acts will enhance people’s understanding of who Jesus is and the true nature of the church
- Pray that God will give the Dagara team guidance and discernment to render cultural items in Scripture meaningfully into Dagara.
