Daily Prayer: the Aramaic Old Testament project

1 million Assyrian Aramaic people have lived in Eurasia for thousands of years, and their Christian heritage stretches back to the time of the New Testament. Today, many of the estimated one million speakers still live in their ancient homelands. But persecution and economic and political pressures have scattered many others to various countries around the world, including the United States. For several centuries, the Aramaic language communities have been without God’s Word in a readable written form, though many people still revere the historical translation as the symbol of their identity. However, the Assyrian Aramaic New Testament was published in 2002, and translators are working on the Old Testament today.

  • Pray for the consultant as he continues to check and revise OT books for the team. Pray as he fine-tunes the team’s translation work and reviews it verse-by-verse that it’s faithful to the original Scriptures and communicates dynamically and idiomatically.
  • Praise God the Aramaic NT is being avidly used by local pastors.  Revision of the New Testament is still taking precedence over other work, since no more copies are available to buy and the demand for it is high. People who’ve asked for copies through the website are still standing in line
  • Ask God to encourage the translators, consultants and reviser as they work to produce a revised version of the NT and at the same time produce the OT for these Aramaic people who long for God’s Word.
