Daily Prayer: the Ache-speaking people of Paraguay
1,500 speakers living as hunter-gatherers in southeastern Paraguay. About 10 to 40 percent of the Aché population are Christians; however, many hold onto animistic beliefs. Most cannot clearly understand the national languages and find it hard to read and understand the Bible. A Paraguayan couple with extensive linguistic and theological training has moved into an Aché community to begin learning the language. They plan to train six mother-tongue translators to be co-workers in the project as they begin working on the Gospel of Luke. They will also train 30 people from Aché communities to be literacy teachers. They hope that through the translation of the Scriptures, the Aché people will grow spiritually as they understand the Word of God.
- Pray that the Aché team will catch and correct any mistakes or unclear passages as each Gospel passes through their scrutiny.
- Pray that people in the local community and the consultant will also detect places in the translation still needing attention.
- Pray that as people hear Luke read during testing sessions they will learn that Jesus “came to seek and save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).
