Maya of Nigeria

50,000 people who need the catalyst of Mother-tongue scripture for personal growth and corporate revival. About 90% are affiliated with Christianity but have been intimidated by other local cultures and have a low esteem of their own culture and language. What a lift it will be for them to have the Scripture in their own language. They are mostly farmers in northern Nigeria plagued by poverty. Two mother-tongue speakers who have some linguistic background and are seminary graduates, will be full time translators. Five other will work part time in the project and are receiving specialized training on computer program use.

  • Local churches are enthusiastic about the project and have offered to assist with some funding, praise the Lord.
  • Pray that the NBTT will provide adequate technical and consultant help to the project, as planned.
  • Thank the Lord Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) will assist with promotion and distribution in audio formats beginning in the 2nd year to complement and help follow-up the JESUS film. Pray this will not only encourage Scripture use, but will raise awareness in the community of the coming publication of the NT & OT Portions.
  • Pray for literacy programs and materials to be used in partnership with government policies on mother-tongue education, since the literacy rate among the Maya is less then 20%. Pray for the team of volunteers already working on plans for literacy outreach.
