Daily Prayer: the Manta-speaking people of India

65,000 people, primarily subsistence farmers controlled by animistic beliefs. Less than 1 percent of the Manta people have accepted Christ, and the rest are very reluctant to become Christians. Other than Bible translation, there is no concerted effort being made by Christians to reach this group. God has called a man (who has an M.A. in linguistics) and his wife, to serve as the translators. The husband-wife team come from a different Indian language and culture. The ultimate goal of this project is to provide the NT and portions of the OT.

  • Praise God that Mark’s Gospel in the people’s heart language is nearing completion. Thank Him for healing one team member’s wife who had arthritis.
  • Pray that as the team focuses more on Scripture-use God will grant them wisdom to plan and implement activities designed to spark people’s interest in His Word.
  • The mother-tongue translators battled malaria for a month. Praise God, they recovered well and are back at their desks. They recently attended a short translation training course. A total of four languages were represented at these sessions. Pray that the Manta translators will be able to take full advantage of what they’re learning.
