Daily Prayer: the Magu-speaking people of India
400,000 Magu people practice a traditional religion attributing power to the spirits that they believe control their lives. In recent years 50-60 Magu people have become believers. A qualified husband-wife team from another part of India is committed to translating the New Testament. They have been living among the Magu people since 1990. Using a specialized computer program, the team is producing a rough draft of the Magu New Testament based on translations being done in related languages. The final version is expected to be completed soon.
- The struggles that 18 or 19 Christian families face in one Magu village, in particular, due to persecution for their faith continue unabated. Not only do their oppressors cause them bodily harm, chase them from their homes and damage their property, but they’ve even burnt their Bibles to make “tea”. Pray for their safety and for God’s hand of protection in the days ahead.
- The churches fasted for three days in prayer and mourning over these circumstances. Government officials have encouraged the believers to go back to the old ways, but they stand firm in their faith in the Lord Jesus. The police did warn the villagers against persecuting the believers and told them that everybody has a right to worship whatever God they choose and nobody can force them to follow their ways. Pray for God’s peace.
- During a thunderstorm, lightning struck the electrical line leading to the mother-tongue translators’ office and causing one computer to be completely fried. Much office equipment was also burnt. Consequently, the team lost two weeks’ worth of translation data.
- On top of that, one team member received an electric shock since he was touching the mouse at the time of the strike. Pray for Satan to be bound as it appears he doesn’t want the Magu to have God’s Word.
