Daily Prayer: the Las Flores-speaking people of Mexico
5,000 people with tremendous pride in their own language. A sense of pride pervades the Las Flores community. The people value their language and have a healthy sense of self-esteem. There has been a variety of Christian influences in the area since the 1930s. And recently one group of believers told their priest “We need the Bible in our own language.” This project is being headed by a 30-year-old Christian man who is fluent in his own language and Spanish. He is now working full time on the project. The translated book of Jonah was the first book ever printed in their language. Believers and unbelievers alike are amazed to see their language written.
- Pray that God’s Word in the Las Flores language will be a powerful tool for convicting people of their sin and need for the Savior.
- Pray that the translator’s pastor will develop a greater interest in mother-tongue Scripture. Pray that his flock’s enthusiasm for God’s Word in the vernacular won’t negatively influence him against it. Pray for grace for the translator as he relates to his pastor.
