Daily Prayer: the Kinaray-a speaking people of the Philippines

378,000 speakers - The main translator died tragically, but a new door has opened for these people. Most of the Kinaray-a people live in the Antique province on the island of Panay in the Western Visayas, Philippines. Years ago Ted and Bea Abadiano pioneered the Kinaray-a Translation project. Early in 1999, the Kinaray-a project suffered a loss at the sudden death of Rev. Ted Abadiano, who had until then assumed a major role in the translation work. God has used this sad turn of events to transform the gentle and delicate Bea into a courageous woman with a vision to give all Kinaray-a speakers His Word in their heart language. The project has relatively good support among the Baptists and other Christian groups. However, there is still a need to reach out to involve the Catholic sector that comprises the majority of the Kinaray-a people. Bea plans to establish a translation reviewers’ committee that will include representatives from among the Catholic groups

  • Thank God that the Kinaray-a team acquired a quality laptop, in answer to prayer. Pray that the tight-knit argumentation in 1 and 2 Corinthians will flow well in the final translation.
  • Pray for special insight for the Kinaray-a team as they revise Luke’s Gospel.
  • Pray that God will prepare the hearts of Kinaray-a people and churches for the culmination and celebration of the translation project coming up next year.
