Daily Prayer: the Kambari-speaking people of Nigeria
450,000 speakers - A cluster including three related language groups adjacent to each other near the western border of Nigeria: the Agwara, Auna and the Salka. There are 125,000 to 150,000 speakers in each group. A segment of the population practices traditional religion, believing that curses, witchcraft and magic are the basis for everything that goes on in their lives. Christianity is practiced by some, with a number of denominations and Bible schools located in several of the towns. A major world religion is also prevalent in the Kambari area. Project Goal: New Testament plus Old Testament portions
- Pray for the teams as they strive to get the New Testament ready for typesetting. Currently, seven books are waiting for the consultants to evaluate. Another book (Revelation) is now in a consultant’s hands. Other books are being reviewed. Pray that Scripture revision will result in a clearer and more accurate translation.
- Matthew, Mark & Luke were printed in trial editions. Pray that people will read and listen to these trial versions and offer helpful input.
- 9 Salka churches sent a ministry team to one village to hold a special children’s program. This village has a church building but few members, since they follow the major religion of the area. About 200 people attended, including the traditional ruler who welcomed the activity. Pray that many people will trust in Christ as they hear the gospel in their language.
