Daily Prayer: the Huichol-speaking people of Mexico
20,000 speakers who are seeing the start of an amazing move of God. "Help us so that we can have the Old Testament," wrote the Huichol believers in April of 2006. "We are happy that we have God’s Word (the New Testament) in our language. We have read it and study it with faith. We also know that Christ speaks to us in the Scriptures, but we don’t have it all in our language. We’re writing to ask you. Help us so that we can have the Old Testament. We are willing to do the work." That heart and the continued passion of the Huichol believers to obey God in spite of ongoing persecution have been at the heart of the Huichol Old Testament Project from the start in 2007.
- Pray that the Huichol translators will be diligent to draft their assigned chapters of Genesis whenever they’re free from seasonal work in the fields.
- Pray that Huichol team members will share the translations of Ruth, Jonah and the Joseph story with people in their local congregations and that God will use these stories for His glory.
- At an evangelistic outreach, twenty people gave their hearts to Christ and twenty more “signed up” to believe at the next opportunity. That sounds strange, but that’s how it happens in Huichol culture. Thank the Lord that the Huichol team has a passion to evangelize their people. Pray that those who “signed up” to believe will follow through and trust in Christ.
