Daily Prayer: the Grasslands people of Mexico

18,000 speakers -2,000 descendants of an ancient people who inhabited Meso-America long before the Spanish conquistadors arrived. Today, the indigenous people of the Grasslands continue to live off the land as they have for centuries. Historically, since the arrival of the Spanish, most in the Grasslands community have been Catholic. However, over the past 30 years, some evangelical, Protestant churches have sprung up. Today, approximately 42% of the Grasslands population belongs to one of these. Two neighboring language groups already have translated Scriptures, and since the languages are related, the Grasslands team will be working from those to draft the Scriptures into their own language. Project fully Funded but prayer partners needed.

  • Recently the translators completed their revision of 1 Corinthians and passed it on to the project advisor to review. Later a consultant will evaluate the book. Pray that the Grasslands team can bring 1 Corinthians up to printable standard.
  • Pedro started revising Jamie’s pre-draft of 2 Corinthians, which he produced using the Adapt-It computer program. Elizabeth is still revising the pre-draft of Matthew. Pray that during this first phase of translating Matthew and 2 Corinthians the team will lay a worthy foundation for further work on these books.
  • The project advisor is on furlough in Germany, but thanks to modern technology she’s able to continue working through email. She’s still reviewing the translators’ draft of Romans and is also looking over 1 Corinthians, jotting down notes and suggesting changes. She’ll return to Mexico this month to discuss her findings with the team. Pray for the advisor as she reviews theologically weighty books of Scripture.
