Daily Prayer: the Gamai-speaking people of Nigeria
200,000 speakers—people whose traditional religious leaders are women. Missionaries first brought the Gospel to them in 1918. Today as many as 70 percent of the Gamai people consider themselves Christians, though the belief of many remains nominal. Traditional religion is still widely practiced in rural villages. The full time project coordinator and main translator, was killed in an automobile accident in December of 2004. The other members of the team are continuing to work while they look for someone to replace the project coordinator.
- Team is aiming to finish the NT soon. Pray that the entire Gamai New Testament will be completed in God’s time, since there’s still much work to be done. Pray that the Scripture reviewers’ workshop can take place without further delay.
- Peace now prevails after several months of general violence in the Gamai area, in answer to prayer. Important political decisions are being made that will affect the future of the people. Pray that wise decisions will be made concerning local government and that these will foster unity, not division.
- The Gamai translation project has received a new generator. A supporter also donated a second generator for use in Jos. This has alleviated the shortage of power to run the computers. Thank God for providing this essential equipment for the translators.
