Daily Prayer: the East Congo Genesis Cluster
7 languages with 1,799,500 speakers
Intermediate Goal is to translate Genesis into 7 languages. In the early 1990s, genocide, war and other crises forced thousands of refugees from Rwanda and Burundi across the border into the DRC. This situation created ethnic tensions that eventually erupted into a civil war. With nine different nations involved, the war became one of the largest interstate wars in African history. It directly impacted more than 50 million Congolese and claimed an estimated 3 million lives. Translators from the Budu, Lika, Omiti, Fuliiru, Mangbetu, Tembo and Komo language groups will work together to translate the book of Genesis.
- Pray for the translation teams working under such difficult circumstances. Pray especially for the Komo translator who has been working alone and fallen behind the others. Praise God that a Pastor is now helping and is quick to learn and passionate about Bible translation, evident in his rising at 5 a.m. some mornings to start his work.
- Thank God that the translators are learning how to express the meaning of Scripture more idiomatically. And praise God that another Pastor is learning computer skills.
- Pray that the Lord will continue to guide the teams to make right word choices as they aim for cultural relevance in the Bible translation.
