Daily Prayer: the Djimini-speaking people of the Ivory Coast

85,000 speakers live a hard life relying entirely on agriculture even through the periods of drought. The Djimini have a high regard for their language and speak it at home, in the marketplace, and in the churches. The Djimini language is not in danger of disappearing or of being absorbed. Most Djimini practice animism or adhere to African traditional religions; about 2 to 4% are Christians. The New Testament (dedicated 1995) is already used extensively, but the Old Testament stories of Abraham and the prophets are needed to show the truth of the Gospel and to counteract other stories.

  • Pray that the Djimini team can finish drafting the Psalms and have them ready for the consultant check.
  • Praise God that the powerful messages of Hosea and Zechariah will soon be available to Djimini speakers.
  • Praise God, literacy is forging ahead. Pray that many Djimini learners will become proficient in reading their mother tongue in preparation to use the vernacular Scriptures.
