Daily Prayer: Aramaic M-North Project
Aramaic M-North is one of several modern dialects of the ancient Aramaic language that was spoken by Jesus and His disciples. Although the ancient Christian churches of Aramaic M-north were blessed to have one of the earliest translations of the Bible, it is now so archaic the people are no longer able to read it for themselves.
Christians from the Aramaic M-North community initiated this project and a very capable speaker with a master’s degree in New Testament Biblical Studies will be the main translator for the project. Another speaker who has a doctorate in New Testament and is an expert in classic and modern Aramaic will oversee his work. Together the team hopes to complete the New Testament, along with the JESUS film and some Scripture audiotapes.
- A full first-draft of the entire New Testament is almost done! Pray for the team as they continue the revision process.
- The translators don’t want Scripture to read like a foreign book, so during comprehension testing they focused on ensuring that the translation sounded natural. Pray that the Bible translation will speak dynamically and idiomatically to people.
- The team distributes the JESUS film whenever possible. Churches and institutions continue to ask for copies Praise God for the film’s high popularity. Pray that those who have it will share it widely and many will turn to the Lord.
