Bekwarra of Nigeria
Various Catholic and Protestant groups have long been in the Bekwarra community, but many church-goers are nominal Christians since they don’t understand what the Bible teaches. Many still practice traditional religion. The team plans to complete significant portions of the Old Testament and revise the entire New Testament that was published in 1983. The updated book of Luke will be used to produce the JESUS film as well as recording the New Testament for audio distribution. There are three full time translators: Rev. Moses Odey is the project coordinator and David Ushis and Chief Michael will work alongside Rev. Moses as translators. The Nigerian Bible translation organization will provide consultant help and training. Literacy efforts have already begun.
-
Pray for financial investments needed to make this translation possible. Finances cover training, computers, supplies and living expenses for the translators’ families.
-
Pray for Rev. Odey as he oversees this project and uses his prior experience to guide the translators.
-
Pray that as the translation team is being trained and learning computer skills that they will absorb all that’s needed to keep the translation moving forward.
