Bakossi of Cameroon
The Bakossi speakers live people live on the slopes of Mt. Kupe and Mt. Manen-guba in the tropical rainforest and savanna of southwestern Cameroon. The missionaries who first came to the Bakossi people placed a strong emphasis on education. As a result, there are many schoolteachers among the Bakossi today, and others are well-educated and live throughout Cameroon. Although schooling and church services are conducted in English, the heart language of the people is still Bakossi. A majority of the Bakossi claim to be Christians, but most are very nominal in their faith.

The translators have completed most of 1 Cor., all of Acts and Hebrews and have drafted Philippians. Praise God for leading the Bakossi team and enabling them to achieve these goals.

When the team listens to Bakossi people speaking today, they realize how little they use proverbs as they did in the past. Proverbs had often been used in settling disputes, communication, storytelling, etc. The team has compiled some of these proverbs and published them to help Bakossi people remain in full contact with this aspect of their culture and not to waste away all this wisdom.

The Bakossi area is now in the heart of the rainy season and it has been difficult for the team to travel to other parts of the area to carry on Scripture testing and review activities because of the bad roads. Pray for their health and safety.
