Prayer Focus Stories

Bakossi of Cameroon

60,000 speakers known for their unusual, bright red tea, the Bakossi people live on the slopes of Mt. Kupe and Mt. Manen-guba in southwestern Cameroon. A majority of the Bakossi claim to be Christians, but most are very nominal in their faith. They often miss spiritual truths because church services are conducted in English, which they do not understand very well. Until recently, local Presbyterian Church leaders opposed translation into the Bakossi language. Now they realize that the churches will never flourish without the New Testament in the language people can understand. Presbyterian leaders have joined the Catholic leadership in support of Bible translation. This project is fully funded.

  • Pray that the team can visit Bakossi communities where they were hindered from testing the translation due to heavy rains. Pray for travel safety and good health.

  • Pray for one translator as he gives a presentation about the translation work to Bakossi denominational leaders.

  • Pray that many Bakossi will learn to read their own language and rejoice to hear directly from God through the translated Scriptures.
